World Series Game 7 Attracts 51M Viewers Across the US, Canada and Japanese Markets.

The exciting extended contest that saw the Dodgers overcome the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 drew a aggregate 51 million viewers across the US, Canadian, and Japan markets. MLB reported this marks the most-watched Fall Classic Game 7 since the 1991 contest featuring the Minnesota Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Television Ratings Details

The Saturday epic game drew 27.33M audience members on Fox Sports channels, its Spanish-language channel and their digital services. Per ratings data, it was the second highest-rated program of the previous week.

It also is the most-watched Fall Classic game after the 2017 edition final game involving the Los Angeles Dodgers and Astros, which drew 29.07M. This marks a sixteen percent improvement over the previous Game 7 between the Nationals and Houston Astros, which attracted 23.19M.

In the weekly rankings, Game 6 ranked fourth, Game 4 was 7th, the fifth game was eighth, and Game 3 finished in thirteenth position.

Global Audience Numbers

In the Canadian market, the game drew over 11 million watchers on Sportsnet and the French TVA Sports. This was the most-watched English-language program in Canada since the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the deciding contest started at 9 PM local time, it drew 12 million viewers. This came after last Friday’s sixth game – where World Series MVP Yamamoto gave up one run in six innings – recorded over 13 million viewers, making it the highest-rated World Series matchup on a sole broadcaster in the country.

Overall Averages and Patterns

The full seven-game World Series averaged over 15.7 million viewers on Fox, a 2% increase from last year’s Dodgers versus Yankees series. This represents the initial instance after 2015 and ‘16 that the Fall Classic has recorded audience increases for two straight years.

Counting the opening game broadcast on Univision, the total US viewership was over 16 million. The total Fall Classic average in Japan was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in Canada.

The complete playoffs on Fox and its sister channels averaged 8.09M watchers, an 8% increase compared to last year and the network’s best playoff performance since 2017.

Major League Baseball reported that the Fall Classic was broadcast in 203 nations and regions by 44 broadcasting partners in sixteen various languages.
